The New York Jets have work to do.

New head coach Robert Saleh is almost certainly going to be a great recruiter on the free agent trail along with general manager Joe Douglas, and what this team does in free agency should set the stage for how they approach the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Will the Jets keep Sam Darnold? Will they draft Zach Wilson or Justin Fields or Trey Lance?

There is no telling what could go down but they need to build the rest of the team for whoever is going to be playing quarterback regardless.

Paying up for JuJu Smith-Schuster seems like something the Jets should do given the fact they have arguably the worst skill position talent in the entire NFL right now.

2020 rookie Denzel Mims should be a good piece moving forward, but outside of him, it’s slim pickings for the Jets. Smith-Schuster is a proven WR1b type of player in the NFL and he would make any QB’s life easier.

Defensively, I like the idea of picking up pass-rusher Yannick Ngakoue to go in Saleh’s defense as well as bringing over veteran Jason Verrett to play corner. Verrett really found himself playing well in Saleh’s defense last year and he would have a great chance to keep the trajectory in the right direction by moving out to New York with him.
