With Ben Roethlisberger coming back, the Pittsburgh Steelers are going to have to be frugal and wise with their remaining free agent dollars.
Pittsburgh could potentially be losing all of the following:
- RB James Conner
- WR JuJu Smith-Schuster
- OT Alejandro Villanueva
- EDGE Bud Dupree
- DB Mike Hilton
Possibly even more than that.
Even with all of those players departing, the Steelers have just over $5 million in projected cap space. They still have needs to address, though, and if they can find a way to free up the space, nickel defensive back Desmond King makes some sense for them as a Mike Hilton replacement.
King also has added value on special teams as a tremendous returner, but with the pressure the Steelers are able to consistently apply up front, King could excel as a ballhawk in an already talented secondary.
