Bonus: Cardinals sign LB Jayon Brown

The Arizona Cardinals made a big splash already in the 2021 offseason by signing veteran defensive end JJ Watt.

Watt chose the Cardinals over a variety of suitors despite the fact that Arizona doesn’t have many pieces in place on that defensive side of the ball (though they have important ones, no doubt).

At any rate, the Cardinals are going to have to continue to be aggressive and the idea of signing one if not two cornerbacks in free agency makes a lot of sense for this team.

Mike Hilton is a tremendous slot corner and an underrated player in general who would go from playing behind TJ Watt in Pittsburgh to playing behind brother JJ in the desert.

The Cardinals could feature Byron Murphy more exclusively on the outside in this case, bringing in someone good enough to take the nickel spot on a full-time basis. Hilton is also effective as a blitzer and run defender.

In addition to Hilton, I like the idea of the Cardinals adding a free agent linebacker like Jayon Brown who can really cover. Even though he’s not the biggest, Brown would be in a great situation playing behind a stout Cardinals defensive front and he can focus on doing what he does best with his coverage ability and range.
