2021 NFL Draft defensive end rankings: Ronnie Perkins leads a deep class
By John Blair
15. Rashad Weaver, Pittsburgh
6-foot-4, 265 pounds
2021 NFL Draft grade: Fifth round
Pittsburgh’s Rashad Weaver had a strong bounce-back season this year after missing all of 2019 with a torn ACL. This past season he accounted for 35 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks on the year. While Weaver was able to put up impressive numbers rushing the passer, he may actually be better vs. the run. In this area of his game, he shows a strong initial punch and is rarely pushed back.
The limiting factor with Weaver is a lack of athletic ability. He is not very athletic and shows limited flexibility. He also has trouble breaking down in space and can be juked more than you would like. Overall, he is a player who will give you a strong effort but just might not have a very high upside. He will likely earn a spot in the NFL as a rotational defensive lineman.
16. Dayo Odeyingbo, Vanderbilt
6-foot-6, 276 pounds
2021 NFL Draft grade: Fifth round
Vanderbilt’s Dayo Odeyingbo is a versatile defender who has the potential to play either defensive end or defensive tackle in a 4-3 defense. He also could be a nice fit as a defensive end in a 3-4 technique as he has the size needed for that position. To go along with his length he has a very wide wingspan measuring 36 inches. One other positive with him is his quick first step, although he is not able to keep this quickness for the entire play.
What will likely cause Odeyingbo to slide in the 2021 NFL Draft is the ruptured Achilles injury he suffered after the season. This injury should cause him to miss training camp and the start of the regular season. Another knock on him is that while he has played defensive tackle at Vanderbilt, he lacks the strength to be much of a force vs. the run at this position.
