Scouting Report

2020 Starters: Austin Jackson, Robert Hunt

As mentioned, there is a distinct possibility the Miami Dolphins could expend their number three overall selection on the top offensive tackle of the class in Penei Sewell. What could be a more effective solution to upgrading the offensive tackle position in the 2021 NFL Draft thought would be the addition of one of the various talents inhabiting the back half of the first round.

With their pick of the second-tier of offensive tackle prospects, the Miami Dolphins opt for the best pass-protector of the bunch in Longhorn’s six-foot-seven tackle Samuel Cosmi. Using his advantageous reach to his own benefit, Cosmi wrangles edge rushers with a long-reaching wingspan and adequate strength to secure the outside.

At 309 pounds, it would be thought that Cosmi is a dominant run-blocker who uses his towering presence to out-leverage defenders from above and drive them downfield. Cosmi struggles to apply this clearly present strength into his style of play, appearing timid or unable to fully apply his strength to pancake opposing defenders.

Similarly to Sewell, the addition of Cosmi would see a shift in personnel along the Miami Dolphins offensive line that would surely include Robert Hunt’s transition to guard as well as a potential swap from left to right tackle for Austin Jackson.
