Scouting Report

2020 Starters: Devante Parker, Preston Williams, Albert Wilson

Currently led by red zone threat Devante Parker, the Miami Dolphins receivers currently lack a single threat capable of forcing defenses to gameplan during the coming week. Combined with a quarterback incapable of stretching the field, Miami needs to find their offensive focal point with a prime draft selection in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Widely considered the top wide receiver of the draft class after a record-breaking season with 2020 top selection Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase encompasses a blend of the top traits sought out in conventional X-receivers in the modern NFL. Separation in short-yardage situations, downfield speed, one-on-one jump-ball ability, as well as post-catch quickness resulting in additional yardage.

Even with Tagovailoa’s former Alabama teammate and Heisman-winner Devonta Smith on the board at the third overall selection, the Miami Dolphins can’t pass on a clear-cut generational talent who doesn’t possess the same potential durability concerns as Smith with his solid 207-pound frame.

Placed within the Miami Dolphins passing attack, the short-middle portion of the field would be left open to crossing routes and sticks by tight end Mike Gesicki as well as the collection of late-round speedsters such as Jakeem Grant. Also likely garnering safety-help in man coverage, Devante Parker could see an uptick in one-on-one red zone opportunities with the addition of Chase to the offense.
