2021 NFL Draft Notebook: Isaiah Wilson trade, Pooka Williams, Kyle Pitts and much more

2021 NFL Draft sleeper
A player who is flying under the radar yet could eventually develop into an NFL starter is Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond. Mond had the best year of his career this past season as he threw for 2,282 yards with 19 touchdowns and only three interceptions. He finishes his Texas A&M career as the Aggies’ record holder for passing TDs (71), passing yards (9,429), completions (785), attempts (1,332) and total offense (11,001).
The first thing that stands out with Mond is his strong arm. He has no trouble throwing the ball downfield even when off-platform and also shows nice zip on his shorter passes. Another positive with him is how calm and poised he remains throughout the game. He is not rattled by pressure very often and also does a nice job of moving around in the pocket. While Mond is far from the most athletic quarterback in the draft he does show enough mobility to slide in the pocket and run if the opportunity presents itself.
The biggest issue with Kellen Mond is his footwork. He struggles with his drops at times in terms of both getting proper depth and getting his feet underneath him. He has his challenges as well with being on balance when throwing on the move. Both of these issues lead to inaccuracy at times. While he only threw three interceptions last season, he still has questions when it comes to decision-making. In 2019, he threw nine picks and his number easily could have been higher this year if defensive backs made better plays on the ball.
Kellen Mond currently ranks as the seventh-best quarterback in the 2021 NFL Draft class, but he does show the potential to become an NFL starter down the road.
