2021 NFL Draft Notebook: Isaiah Wilson trade, Pooka Williams, Kyle Pitts and much more
By John Blair
2021 NFL Draft burning question: Is Florida tight end Kyle Pitts worth a top-six pick?
There is no doubt that Kyle Pitts is an outstanding tight end prospect and the top tight end in the 2021 NFL Draft. However, is that worth a top-six pick in the draft like many draft pundits have him projected to go? The answer to that question is no for several reasons.
The first reason is that he is not a complete tight end. He does not offer much as a blocker and is not someone who is going to make your running game much better.
Another reason he is not worth that high of a pick is that while he did have great production as a receiver in the NFL, he does have some concerns in this area. One of these is he is not a very physical player which could cause him to get beat up by NFL linebackers. While he does have good speed for a tight end, he does not have the speed to beat nickel corners who he might be matched up against when split out wide.
This is not to say he won’t be a productive pro and possibly an All-Pro player, just that he doesn’t deserve to be the highest-drafted tight end in NFL Draft history. Instead, his value should be more of a mid-first-round pick.
