Dallas Cowboys: Three mid-round receivers to consider in 2021 NFL Draft
By Joel Deering
3. D’Wayne Eskridge, Western Michigan Broncos
D’Wayne Eskridge is a player who has been compared to Kansas City Chiefs receiver Tyreek Hill. Every team wants a Tyreek Hill-type player. A guy who can get past anyone at any time. A guy who you can’t play single coverage on. Eskridge could be that guy.
Eskridge has said himself that he’ll run a 4.20 forty-yard dash. Of course he’s going to say that when asked, but even he doesn’t hit 4.20, he’ll be somewhere in that range. He’s just fast. Tony Pauline recently stated that Eskridge had himself a great Senior Bowl outing. “No one could cover him, and he caught almost everything thrown to him.”
Eskridge may be the hardest of the three receivers listed here for the Dallas Cowboys to acquire. CBS Sports ranks him as the 104th player on their board, which is below Tutu Atwell. However, Eskridge’s showing at the Senior Bowl has helped raise his stock significantly. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a late second round or early third-round pick.
Same as with Atwell, this may be a little too early for the Dallas Cowboys to pull the trigger on a receiver, but it’s not a position they should completely ignore. If Eskridge is on the board when the Cowboys are on the clock in the third round, Eskridge should be in consideration. They need a guy with speed who can get past anyone on the field.
The Dallas Cowboys have a need for speed
There are more speedsters at the receiver position in the 2021 NFL Draft, but Tutu Atwell, Anthony Schwartz and D’Wayne Eskridge are three guys who would be great fits with the Dallas Cowboys. They wouldn’t be relied upon to start or make a huge impact right away due to Cooper, Lamb and Gallup being there, but could step in and play a valuable role if needed.
Any one of these prospects would make a great fourth or fifth receiver who can be brought along slowly and given more and more responsibility as they prove they can make a big impact with the team.
We all know that wide receiver is not a major need for the Dallas Cowboys, but speed is. They’ve needed a speed guy on offense for several years, and this draft class gives them a great opportunity to get that guy. If the 2021 NFL Draft rolls their way in the middle rounds, they should add the much-needed element of speed to their offense and select one of these speedy receivers.
