The Dallas Cowboys face plenty of uncertainty going into the 2021 NFL Draft and free agent signing periods.

What is the team’s stance with pending free agent Dak Prescott?

Although we’ve looked at some wild quarterback predictions here at NFL Mocks in recent months, will the Cowboys really let Prescott hit the open market?

If their only option is to franchise tag him, they might have to keep that scenario on the table all the way up to the March 9 deadline. For now, let’s assume that the more likely scenario of Prescott being tagged happens and the Cowboys let other top free agents walk. How might they use the 2021 NFL Draft to replace them?

Let’s look through a handful of Cowboys 2021 free agents and predict what draft prospects could be solid replacements.

1. QB Jamie Newman for Andy Dalton

One way or another, the Cowboys are going to have to put some kind of contingency plan in place at the quarterback position for Dak Prescott.

It turned out that signing Andy Dalton in the 2020 offseason was a wise decision both for the team and the player, but despite Dalton’s prior starting experience, the Cowboys were unable to make their way into the 2020 postseason despite all of their weapons offensively.

Jamie Newman has some of the best tools of any quarterback in the 2021 NFL Draft class. As a matter of fact, he might just be a top-five player in the class at the position…

After sitting out the 2020 season, there is undoubtedly some uncertainty when it comes to Newman right now, but the stuff he put on tape at Wake Forest in 2019 was good and the physical/athletic tools are all there in spades.

He would be high-upside insurance for Prescott and the Cowboys might be able to get him in the third round.
