Arizona Cardinals: 3 most pressing 2021 NFL Draft needs
3. Tight End
The Arizona Cardinals’ offense is going to spread three or four receivers out a majority of the time, but that doesn’t mean they should forsake the tight end position completely.
Three of the four tight ends on Arizona’s depth chart at the tight end position in 2020 (Dan Arnold, Darrell Daniels, and Seth DeValve) are free agents in 2021.
Former 2015 second-round draft pick Maxx Williams has seemingly found a home in Arizona, but he hasn’t been quite the dynamic pass catching threat everyone thought he could become when he was balling out for the Minnesota Gophers.
The prize of the 2021 NFL Draft class at the tight end position is obviously Florida’s Kyle Pitts, but if the Cardinals want to add him to their offensive mix, they’re going to have to sell out on some future draft capital to move up and do it.
That’s not impossible, but considering how much this team needs help and youth at cornerback and other areas of the team, it feels very unlikely.
There should be some really good tight ends available after day one of the draft, however. The Cardinals could get lucky and see someone like Pat Freiermuth sitting there, or they could go with a guy like Notre Dame’s Tommy Tremble, who could split out and be a devastating blocker from a big slot role for them.
Whoever the Cardinals add here, they should be looking for the exciting, athletic types with vertical speed.
