2021 NFL Mock Draft: The insatiable hunger of the quarterback market
By Ian Higgins
Similar to their NFC East rivals, the New York Giants have struggled to replace the production of Odell Beckham Jr since losing him to the Cleveland Browns. Filled in by veteran Golden Tate, quarterback Daniel Jones has made the most of what has been at his disposal at the Meadowlands.
Even with tight end Evan Engram coming into his own as an offensive weapon, New York can find an additional playmaker to take the weight off of Saquon Barkley upon his return from injury.
To solve these issues, the New York Giants welcome wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, a raw playmaker with breakout speed who can manufacture yardage with his shiftiness and speed. Lacking any similar playmakers in their current arsenal, Waddle will present an every-down threat that can open up the game for the likes of Engram and Slayton. Also providing special teams value, Waddle is an offensive dynamo with the potential to fully rewrite the DNA of any offense he enters.
With questions continuing to flutter around the quarterback position in Santa Clara, the San Francisco Niners decide to address an area of need in advance of replacing Jimmy Garoppolo. With left tackle Trent Williams likely on his way out of the Bay, San Francisco needs to utilize their first-round selection on one of the numerous talented offensive tackles within the 2021 NFL Draft.
Beating many other tackle-needy organizations to the punch in this NFL mock draft, the Niners grab the offensive tackle of the draft class with one of the highest ceilings and all of the measurables desired in a franchise blindside-protector. At six-foot-five, north of 300-pounds, and supported by quick feet enabling him to block in space, Darrisaw provides the needed injection of youth to an aging blocking-unit.
