4. Jack Anderson, Texas Tech
6-foot-5, 309 pounds
2021 NFL Draft grade: Third round
Texas Tech’s Jack Anderson has been a standout from day one at Texas Tech. As a freshman, he started every game of the season and was named a freshman All-American. He had a strong season in 2018 as well, as he was named to the All-Big 12 second team. Unfortunately, he was only able to play in three games in 2019 due to a shoulder injury but bounced back to make the All-Big 12 team in 2020.
Anderson is one of the better athletes in this year’s crop of offensive guards. As a run blocker, he does an excellent job of getting to the second level. He also shows good athleticism in pass protection as he displays quick feet in this area. To go along with his nice mobility, Anderson has good tenacity and does a great job of blocking to the whistle. One other positive with him is that he had a good Senior Bowl week, which helped raise his stock.
The most significant area Anderson needs to improve is his pad level. This is a concern as he tends to fire out of his stance high and needs to do a better job of getting under his defender’s pads. This is also a concern in the open field, where he could do a better job of breaking down as a blocker. He also shows only average strength, so he likely will not be the most physical run blocker in the 2021 NFL Draft.
