Buffalo Bills 7-round 2021 NFL mock draft: Upgrading the rushing attack

Buffalo Bills mock draft: Round 3, 93rd overall
One of the Buffalo Bills’ biggest free agents this offseason is linebacker Matt Milano. With the Bills tight against the salary cap and Milano expecting a big pay-day, it would be a surprise if they were able to retain him this offseason. The team’s other outside linebacker, A.J. Klein, does not look like a full-time starter, which is part of the reason Buffalo only had two linebackers on the field most of last season.
In Ohio State’s Peter Werner, the Bills find a player who would fit in well in the team’s defensive scheme. The Bills are looking for someone who can hold up in coverage, which Werner did well for the Buckeyes last season. This skill should translate well to the NFL for him as he has the size and speed to match up well in coverage.
Buffalo also likes to blitz their linebackers some, as Milano had a career-high 3.5 sacks in 2020. This is a skill Werner can do as he recorded three sacks in 2018 when he played more of a Sam linebacker type role for the Buckeyes. The fact that Werner has been successful as both a Sam and Will linebacker is yet another positive for him.
Please note the Buffalo Bills don’t have a fourth-round pick as it was part of the trade they sent to the Minnesota Vikings for Stefon Diggs.
