2021 NFL Draft: Round 1, 23rd overall
Earlier in the draft, the New York Jets took Zach Wilson with the second pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. With the 23rd pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Jets decide to address the defensive side of the ball. The area they decided to address is cornerback as the team had no players graded in the top-60 at this position last year according to Pro Football Focus. The team also gave up an average of 276 yards in the air last season, which was the fifth-worst mark in the NFL.
Georgia cornerback Tyson Campbell is someone who could make sense with the 23rd pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. What makes Campbell such an intriguing prospect is his measurables. Coming in at six-foot-two, he has the size to play the cover two type defense Robert Saleh likes. He also has good speed to go with his size, as he is expected to run a 4.4 40-yard dash in the pre-draft process.
Unfortunately, though Campbell is more of a project at this time compared to a proven player. During his time at Georgia he only intercepted one pass and also only had eight pass deflections over the previous two seasons. Part of the reason for his lack of on-field production is that he seems to not have the best instincts on the field.
With the being said the New York Jets still might think they can develop him, and that he is worth a late first-round pick.
