2021 NFL Draft: Alabama sets first-round pick record in 2-round mock draft
By John Blair
The 2020 Alabama team was one of the most talented teams in college football history. The Crimson Tide set numerous offensive records and had two of the four finalists for the Heisman Trophy. Alabama will also likely set the record for most players drafted in the first round of the draft. In my first mock draft of the year, I have eight players from Alabama going in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, which would be two more than the previous record of six players that was set by Miami in 2004.
In this mock draft, I tried to keep it as realistic as possible and did not include any trades. While surely some trades will happen, they are impossible to predict and throw off the entire draft order when they are predicted.
2021 NFL Draft: Round 1, 1st overall
The first pick in the 2021 NFL Draft will be one of the easiest moves the Jacksonville Jaguars have ever made when they take Trevor Lawrence with the pick. This move will give Jacksonville a new face of the franchise and someone the team can build around for years to come.
Trevor Lawrence gives the Jaguars one of the best pure passers to come out of college football in years. He has the arm strength, intelligence, work ethic, and accuracy you need from your franchise quarterback. Last season, might have been the best season of his career as he completed a career-high 69% of his passes and also threw for 24 touchdowns in just five games. I would be very surprised if Lawrence does not become one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL in the next five years.
While this pick is a no-brainer for the team, the real question with Jacksonville will be what do they do with the rest of their draft picks, including the 25th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
