Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Quarterback. North Dakota State. 7. player. Trey Lance. 50

The Detroit Lions made the first big move of the 2021 offseason, trading Matthew Stafford to the Rams for Jared Goff, two first-round selections, and a third-round pick. For the short term, Goff is the quarterback for Detroit, but it’s hard to imagine he’s in the long-term plans.

Selecting Trey Lance here at seven overall in the 2021 NFL Draft might not address many immediate needs, but getting the long-term quarterback in-house allows them to build for when he becomes the starter. Lance has very good arm strength and great touch to all levels of the field, but he needs to work on speeding up his reads. Letting him sit for a year or two makes sense here.

Wide Receiver. Alabama. 8. 59. Pick Analysis. Jaylen Waddle. player. Scouting Report

The Miami Dolphins, after a trade back, are sitting pretty well here. With only one of the top receivers off the board at this point, they have their pick of who to bring in to help out young quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Jaylen Waddle ends up as the selection here. Waddle has perhaps the best long speed and explosiveness of anyone in the 2021 NFL Draft. His short-area burst is insane, and he will threaten defenses like no one the Dolphins have on the roster currently. Also, his familiarity with Tagovailoa makes it even better.
