2021 NFL Draft: Panthers trade up, QBs go early in 2021 NFL mock draft
After selecting a quarterback of the future in Zach Wilson, the New York Jets turn to the defensive side of the ball, one that needs an influx of young talent. Outside of the developing Quinnen Williams and Nathan Shepherd, along with Marcus Maye in the secondary, the Jets need serious help. They haven’t addressed the edge significantly in some time, and they do it here in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Kwity Paye has plenty of athletic traits, especially his quickness to bend around the arc and win with an inside move. His motor is white-hot, and he doesn’t rest until he’s gotten to the quarterback. Drafting Paye is betting on traits over production, but it’s worth it here.
The Pittsburgh Steelers, yet again, are a contender with issues surrounding the quarterback position. Ben Roethlisberger’s years are numbered, and if winning a Super Bowl is the goal, going all in is the avenue. Despite rumors that Zach Banner will be given a starting job at tackle, drafting a tackle early in the 2021 NFL Draft is still the right call.
Jalen Mayfield is another tackle with great athleticism. His footwork to frame rushers is impressive, and he gets after it in the run game. His hand placement could use work in pass protection, but his steady improvement in 2020 warrants this first-round selection.
