2021 NFL Draft: Round 1, 30th overall

S. TCU. 30. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 60. Trevon Moehrig. player

A lot of what the Minnesota Vikings will do in the 2021 NFL Draft will depend on how they address their roster in free agency. This pick, in particular, is simply not going to happen if they are able to bring free safety Anthony Harris back into the fold.

That being said, the Vikings are not exactly sitting in a great cap situation and Harris is going to command a ton of attention on the open market. It is certainly possible that safety stands out as a major position of need for the Vikings when we enter the draft and if they trade down, as they do in this mock draft, it could be a first-round target for the team.

If Harris leaves and the Vikings address their safety situation early, Trevon Moehrig stands out as the best choice for this team. Moehrig is an extremely athletic and rangy safety prospect who shines in deep zone coverage.

He always seems to find his way to the ball and has a knack for separating the ball from the receiver. Moehrig changes directions quickly and uses his speed to cover a ton of ground on the back-end. He also displays fantastic natural ball skills for a defensive player.

The defense is the strength of this Vikings’ roster and losing a key piece like Harris would be difficult to overcome. That being said, Moehrig is a fantastic safety prospect in his own right and should be able to come in and be an immediate defensive playmaker for this team. Trading down from No. 14 specifically to target Moehrig as Harris’ replacement would not be a bad plan of attack for the Minnesota Vikings.
