Pittsburgh Steelers mid-late round options: Chris Rumph II, EDGE Duke

Depending on where the Pittsburgh Steelers decide to spend their money in free agency, they may be losing Bud Dupree. Even if they do not lose him behind TJ Watt and Dupree the depth at the edge is very underwhelming and needs some improvement.

Alex Highsmith showed flashes of potential but besides his improvement towards the end of the year, not much production came from the rotational pass-rushers behind the starting unit.

Chris Rumph II is a guy who can be lined up all over the front of the defense and bring pressure. At Duke, Rumph was a typical edge rusher but with his size and versatility he could line up all over the front seven to bring unwanted pressure to the quarterback.

Speaking back on Bud Dupree there were several defensive run packages this season when Dupree would rush standing up behind the nose tackle. Packages like this have been seen by Rumph in his college days which makes him a potential target for the Steelers in the later rounds of the draft.

Rumph stands around 6-foot-4 and weighs around 235 pounds. He also shows great quickness off the line of scrimmage and has a smart way about his play by integrating different moves and counters at the line of scrimmage.

Rumph played where he was told at Duke and was a solid primer pass rusher and was used in a lot of stunts and other blitzing packages. Versatility and smart play could make him a nice target in the later rounds.

Rumph does not have the ideal size that many teams want at his particular position. This makes him a day three guy in the eyes of many. Adding on some good weight and continuing to show versatility on the line would make him an interesting prospect to be targeted by the Pittsburgh Steelers come day three of the NFL Draft.
