New England Patriots’ second-round pick

Pick Analysis. QB. Kyle Trask. 2. Scouting Report. Florida. player. 47

One of the biggest challenges the New England Patriots have this offseason is finding a franchise quarterback. Unfortunately, the top four quarterbacks will likely be off the board by the time the Patriots pick, and I don’t think any other quarterback is worth the 15th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

The New England Patriots could get an interesting developmental quarterback in the second round though with the selection of Florida quarterback Kyle Trask. Even though Trask ended his college career on a sour note as he threw three picks and only completed 57% of his passes against Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl, he still had a great season. During the regular season, he threw for over 4,000 yards and 43 touchdowns. It also should be noted most of Trask’s top targets sat out the bowl game, which had a big impact on him in this game.

While Trask does have some limitations on what skills he brings to the table, including mobility and overall athletic ability, he also brings his share of positives to the table. One of these being his accuracy as he completed 69% of his passes last year and showed great placement on most of his passes. He also seemed to greatly improve as a decision-maker last season, and I think he will continue to grow in this area with the right coaching.

In terms of where he would fit with the New England Patriots, I would look for him to compete with Jarrett Stidham for the backup job. Both of these players would likely sit behind someone the Patriots bring in either as a free agent or trade for.
