Virginia Tech. Caleb Farley. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 847. Cornerback.

The Dallas Cowboys are going to have an interesting debate in the war room if both Patrick Surtain and Caleb Farley are on the board with their first-round selection. Caleb Farley is a super explosive athlete that has receiver-like ability to track the ball in the air. I truly believe the overall ceiling for Farley is higher than Surtain.

Even though I think the ceiling may be higher for Farley, the more NFL ready prospect is Surtain. In the Dallas Cowboys’ new defense under Dan Quinn, they want long corners who can close zone windows in a deep third. They will be playing a ton of Cover 3 looks. In my opinion, there is not be a cornerback in this draft that plays the ball down the field and in the air better than Farley.

I think that this pick would add explosion in the defensive backfield for years to come. Farley is a raw player transferring positions from wide receiver to cornerback at Virginia Tech. At the next level, he will need some time to develop his technique and ability to understand how offenses are going to try and attack them. Once Farley understands and develops those techniques, the sky is the limit.

Along with Surtain, Farley is also a long corner measuring in at 6-foot-2. This length along with his next-level speed will help make the transition to the next-level even easier. If the NFL was having the combine this year, he would have displayed elite speed to the scouts. If the Dallas Cowboys select Caleb Farley in the 2021 NFL Draft, this would be a long-term solution to the cornerback one problem the Cowboys have had since Byron Jones left.
