2021 NFL Draft: 23rd pick

WR. Minnesota. Rashod Bateman. player. Scouting Report. 23. 10. Pick Analysis

The Houston Texans may not recover from trading Deshaun Watson and DeAndre Hopkins both within a year of each other, but adding players like Zach Wilson, Quinnen Williams, and Rashod Bateman with some of their prime draft capital in return could soften the blow.

After taking Wilson near the top of this mock draft, the Texans go after the former Minnesota playmaker to be a possible WR1 of the future for them.

As a route runner, Bateman is a smooth operator who can get in and out of breaks with the best of them. One thing that really stands out about Bateman’s game is his ability to track the ball downfield and compete at the catch point.

For a guy who strikes as a possession receiver first, Bateman is a tremendous big-play threat.

He averaged over 20 yards per reception in 2019 at Minnesota and reeled in 11 touchdowns.

It will be very interesting to see if the Houston Texans look at the possibilities of mock draft scenarios in the event that they would trade Deshaun Watson to find out how willing they might be to pull off such a crazy deal.

If they were able to get anything close to this package from the Jets, how could they not at least consider it? If Deshaun Watson doesn’t want to play for Houston ever again and there is nothing they can do to convince him, they could get some very interesting trade packages as soon as this offseason and perhaps come away with a haul like this.

Other teams would be lining up to pay the price, but if Deshaun Watson really wants to play for the New York Jets, this is a scenario (landing Zach Wilson, Rashod Bateman, and Quinnen Williams) that Houston might be able to get on board for.
