Raiders mock draft: Round 3 Pick 81

S. . player. 866. Paris Ford. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Pitt

The Silver and Black will need to something about their pass defense and addressing the defensive backfield will be a start. The case could be made that in the third round, the Raiders could go tackle, guard, or cornerback, but if Pitt’s Paris Ford is available, he’s the pick.

Ford’s last three seasons at Pitt were solid, accumulating ten passes defended, three forced fumbles, and six interceptions in 23 games played. PFF’s coverage grade for Ford was 68.1 for his junior campaign.

Ford would be a solid fit in Gus Bradley’s incoming Cover 3 scheme, another physical safety to team up with Abram. Though Ford would more likely fit a slot role or playing near the line of scrimmage, allowing Abram to roam in the backfield where’s better suited.

A devastating tackler as you can see in his film, Ford will compliment Abram well and he’ll be looking to create turnovers himself. You can also see he’s an asset in run-defense as well, he isn’t afraid of contact with incoming running backs. Ford’s versatility, athleticism, and tackling will serve him well with the Raiders.

Assuming the team addresses their roster holes such as offensive line and wide receiver via free agency, the Raiders can leave the draft’s first three rounds with a trio of potential defensive starters.
