2021 NFL mock draft: Round 1, 2nd overall
Things could change quickly if the New York Jets are the team to swing a trade for Deshaun Watson. However, as everything stands now, the Jets must take a quarterback with their second overall selection in the upcoming draft. I understand the appeal of trying to move forward with Sam Darnold and trading this selection, but Darnold is not the guy to lead this team going forward. Blame Adam Gase if you want, but Sam Darnold has been bad.
With this in mind, the decision basically comes down to two players; Justin Fields and Zach Wilson. Honestly, I don’t think the Jets can go wrong either way here. Both Fields and Wilson are high-level quarterback prospects who each have bright futures at the next level. That being said, I still have Fields higher at the moment and would make him the pick at No. 2.
Fields is an extremely talented quarterback prospect whose combination of mobility and arm talent consistently shines through. Fields is an exciting dual-threat quarterback who escapes pressure extremely well, can create with his legs and can hit any throw on the field.
Fields throws the ball with incredible anticipation and shows impressive accuracy to all levels of the field. While Fields certainly needs some development at the next level, his long-term upside is absolutely massive. Make no mistake about it, Fields is a tremendous quarterback prospect who should be the top target for the New York Jets at No. 2.
