1. Move Quenton Nelson to Left Tackle

This is the quickest fix for the Indianapolis Colts. While this maybe creates a hole at guard, moving your best offensive lineman to tackle, where he’s needed most, will be crucial, especially with a new starting quarterback taking over in 2021. Head coach Frank Reich and general manager Chris Ballard have hinted at this possibility.

Quenton Nelson had reps at left tackle during the 2020 season, most notably against the Las Vegas Raiders and Buffalo Bills. While he may not possess the fleet feet of many top tier tackles in the NFL, Nelson has a high football IQ and a good combo of strong hands and a strong lower half. He doesn’t give up much ground when set and balanced, and he still is effective recognizing stunts at tackle.

If the Colts make this move, then the attention will shift to figuring out the interior offensive line in the offseason. It may not be as high of a priority then, meaning that day two or day three could be an option to add another lineman into the mix. Names like Ben Cleveland out of Georgia or Aaron Banks out of Notre Dame would make plenty of sense.

The Colts are obviously high on Danny Pinter, so believing in him to take the next step and play alongside Nelson at left guard could also be in play.
