Broncos mock draft: Round 3, Pick 73

Jayson Oweh had a solid career as a pass rusher at Penn State though he’s still raw in coverage. The Broncos would be best served by using him strictly on passing downs, taking advantage of his explosiveness. Over time the team can mold him and prepare for more of an outside linebacker role but he might not see too much action as a rookie.

As far as his time as a Nittany Lion, Oweh piled up 13.5 tackles for a loss, seven sacks, and two forced fumbles in 20 games played. His overall frame and length make for an imposing presence but he needs to put on muscle, especially if he’ll be defending against the run.

Kyle Crabbs of the Draft Network said it best in regards to what the Broncos will get with Oweh.

"“I do believe Oweh will reach his potential, but he’s young, relatively inexperienced, and needs more polish and more power rolled into his frame before he gets there.”"

You can see Oweh’s explosiveness on film, the way he sheds blockers, almost slipping right by them. He also has a motor, on passing situations you can see his speed on display as he chases down pass-catchers. His technique, solely from an EDGE standpoint, is solid as he finesses blockers and simply overwhelms them with natural speed.

The goal should be to draft as many instant starts as you can each draft, but the Broncos could have something special in Oweh if he’s available in the third.
