Broncos mock draft: Round 2, Pick 41

The Broncos will more than likely need to replace Simmons, this is were Trevon Moehrig comes in. Moehrig has the speed to be a difference-maker in coverage but he’ll also help with run-defense. With Simmons likely gone, Moehrig can be the Broncos’ new center fielder. His prowess in college was recognized recently when he was presented with the Jim Thorpe award.

His last two years at Texas Christian were impressive, to say the least. The safety accumulated 20 passes defended, six interceptions, and 73 solo tackles. Drafting a tackling machine that can also be relied upon to hold down pass coverage should be a priority for Denver.

Jordan Reid from the Draft Network pointed out that Moehrig’s most notable deficiency is in the run game but that can be remedied.

"“His biggest improvements must come in run support, as he’s a safety that isn’t afraid to come up and tackle, but his tactics and aggressiveness while doing so can be out of control.”"

As far as pass coverage, Moehrig displays some excellent skills on tape. He always finds his way to the ball, a true ball hawk and as stated before, he’s not afraid of punishing receivers. The Broncos will need a safety that can disrupt passes but also one that will get them the ball back.
