45. Scouting Report. 9. Patrick Surtain II. player. Pick Analysis. Cornerback. Alabama

Patrick Surtain was an outstanding cornerback for the Miami Dolphins. His son? He could be even better.

Patrick Surtain II, coming out of Alabama, could be the most impactful player from the Tide right away as a rookie from the 2021 NFL Draft. It seems that this guy is ready to step onto an NFL field right now and shut down an entire side of the football field.

Surtain II is outstanding in man coverage. He has solid size and is very physical. At the line of scrimmage, throughout the route and at the catch point, Surtain II always seems to be glued to his man.

In zone, Surtain II displays great instincts when making plays on the ball and has fantastic ball skills when contesting catches. He always seems to manage to get his hand in there and break up the play. That is when a quarterback mistakenly decides to try to throw in his direction.

The Denver Broncos secondary is nowhere near where it was when the team won the Super Bowl five years ago. Aqib Talib and Chris Harris Jr. are long gone and Denver is in need of a new lockdown corner to supplement their talented pass rushers. Patrick Surtain II could absolutely be that guy.

With Vic Fangio as the head coach, the Denver Broncos will undoubtedly continue to try to hang their hat on the defensive end. In a division with Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert at quarterback and dynamic wide receivers like Tyreek Hill, Keenan Allen and Henry Ruggs III to deal with, having a true lockdown corner like Surtain II seems to be a must.
