2021 NFL Draft: Deshaun Watson on the move in latest NFL mock draft
Speaking of impactful players, few were more impressive in college football this season than Florida’s Kyle Pitts. If DeVonta Smith didn’t have such a crazy good season, Pitts may have received some Heisman attention as a non-quarterback in his own right. He’s that special of a player.
Pitts is a very big and physical player. He has a perfect frame for an NFL tight end. He is a big-body target that can shield off defenders and make catches over the middle. But Pitts is far more than just a big body. He is athletic as they come.
Pitts reminds me a lot of Darren Waller. Not only is he big, but he really looks like a wide receiver when he’s out there running routes. He has the speed and athleticism to be a mismatch for nearly any defender, and also can be dangerous after the catch with the ball in his hands.
As a tight end, Pitts could really be the whole package. He is big, athletic and has great hands. He goes up and gets anything thrown in his direction. Furthermore, Pitts is aggressive and effective as a blocker as well. Sure, he will excel more as a receiver, but he can hold his own enough to play on the end of the line at the next level.
This may seem like a reach for a tight end in the top 10 of the 2021 NFL Draft, but Pitts brings more to the table than your average tight end. If he can replicate the kind of production that he displayed at Florida, the Carolina Panthers’ offense would become even more dynamic.
The Panthers have not had a reliable tight end since the departure of Greg Olsen, and Pitts in a Joe Brady offense would be must-see TV. After missing out on the top 2021 NFL Draft quarterbacks, Carolina could opt to surround Teddy Bridgewater with as much talent as possible to see if he can be their long term solution. Pitts is as talented as they come.
