Offensive Tackle. Penei Sewell. 5. player. Pick Analysis. Oregon. 56. Scouting Report

This might be the biggest home run pick of the 2021 NFL Draft. If Penei Sewell is still on the board for the Cincinnati Bengals at five, Joe Burrow should run the pick up to the podium himself.

Joe Burrow was the first overall selection in last year’s draft, so the Bengals need to do everything that they can to help him succeed. The first order of business is to protect him. Burrow threw the ball a TON last season before eventually going out with a torn ACL.

Sure, there is more to a quarterback’s success than just keeping him protected, but that is a great place to start. If Burrow can stay healthy and actually have time in the pocket to process the field and make throws, he will be able to grow into one of the best quarterbacks in the league.

Penei Sewell is the best offensive tackle prospect that most evaluators have seen in years. It really is nearly impossible to find a true weak point in his game. As a pass blocker, Sewell is a smooth operator. He has quick feet and powerful hands to keep defenders at bay. He is also very smart and often recognizes blitzes and stunts, allowing him to block the proper person and prevent a free-runner at his quarterback.

While Sewell is a very impressive pass protector, I think he is an even better run blocker. Sewell uses those powerful hands to dominate defenders at the point of attack. He engages and easily manipulates his opponent to open rushing lanes for his backs. He is an outstanding mover who excels in space, when pulling and when working to the next level.

Penei Sewell has everything that you look for in an offensive lineman. He is about as sure-fire as they come and would be an incredible asset for Joe Burrow, head coach Zac Taylor and the Cincinnati Bengals offense for years to come.
