2021 NFL Draft: Deshaun Watson on the move in latest NFL mock draft
Wyatt Davis had the misfortune of suffering an injury late in his final college season during the National Championship Game, so that may affect his pre-draft process and could cause his 2021 NFL Draft stock to fall a bit.
If Davis does fall to the end of the first round, a team like the Chiefs could definitely afford to take a chance on him. Davis is likely the number one interior offensive lineman in the 2021 NFL Draft and should be a plug-and-play starter at right guard as a rookie, assuming he’s healthy.
Davis has the blend of power and athleticism that you look for in a guard. He can maul in a straight line, move as a puller or pass protect like a tackle. Davis is a very well-rounded lineman who could become one of the best in the NFL.
The Chiefs have a solid roster right now without too many holes. A player like Davis would surely be an upgrade, however, over whoever else they would be planning on starting at right guard. While guard isn’t viewed as important as tackle, you always need to make sure you are rolling out five guys on your line that can protect your quarterback and open holes for your running back.
Having a versatile player like Davis will help get Clyde Edwards-Helaire and the run game going for the Chiefs, making their offense even more dangerous. Also being able to protect Mahomes from some of the best inside rusher that today’s game has to offer, Davis would be a great starting right guard for the Kansas City Chiefs.
