Scouting Report. Quarterback. 48. Pick Analysis. Alabama. Mac Jones. 29. player

This make may be a bit of a surprise to some people given the level of play of Tom Brady right now, but the man is 43 years old. He isn’t going to play forever, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could look at picking a predecessor now and have them learn behind Brady for whatever time he has left.

Mac Jones proved this season that he has what it takes to compete in the NFL. Against the highest levels of competition college football had to offer, Jones showed up and showed out. Sure, he had a ton of top-level talent around him, but Mac Jones still impressed in his own right.

Jones is the flashiest quarterback prospect of all time. He isn’t the biggest or fastest and he doesn’t have the strongest arm, but he finds a way to get it done. He is a very smart and cerebral player, recognizing what the defense is giving him and taking advantage.

Jones is a solid passer as well. His ball placement has been superb and he displays great touch on throws across the field. He has enough arm strength and mobility to make NFL throws and plays at the next level.

The Bucs may look for more of a gunslinger to operate their vertical passing attack, but I think Mac Jones fits well here. Having weapons (potentially still when he takes over) like Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Antonio Brown, Rob Gronkowski and O.J. Howard should feel a bit like he’s still at Alabama. And I see a little bit of (current) Brady in Jones, and he seems to be doing a fine job of running the Bruce Arians Tampa Bay offense.
