53. Scouting Report. 26. player. Linebacker. Notre Dame. Jeremiah Owosu-Koramoah. Pick Analysis

This seems to be a bit of a pipe dream for the Cleveland Browns, as he is one of the quickest rising prospects in the 2021 NFL Draft, but if they are able to land Jeremiah Owosu-Koromoah at pick 26, Browns fans should be jumping for joy.

Jeremiah Owosu-Koromoah is a very impressive defender from Notre Dame, who stood out this season, especially down the stretch. Teams will value Owosu-Koromoah because of his versatility and athleticism. He can play all over the defense and impact the game in a variety of ways.

Considered a linebacker, Owosu-Koromoah almost played more of a nickel/linebacker hybrid for the Fighting Irish, often lining up across from tight ends and wide receivers. Doing such, he became very stout in coverage, with the ability to cover nearly any offensive weapon man-to-man.

Also on passing downs, Owosu-Koromoah excels as a blitzer as well, coming from many different angles to attack the quarterback. In the run game, Owosu-Koromoah is a fast-twitch athlete with closing speed to get to the ball carrier and the physicality to land a jarring hit.

Owosu-Koromoah could be a near-perfect fit for the Cleveland Browns. Although I believe they would still need a true MIKE middle linebacker, a guy like Owosu-Koromoah would bring so much value. Playing him in a similar role as more of an inside linebacker on early downs and out to a sort of sub defensive back taking on tight ends and receivers would work well.

The Cleveland Browns currently lack speed and playmaking at the linebacker position. Veterans B.J. Goodson and Malcolm Smith played well last season, but it is unclear if either will be back in 2021. Mack Wilson and Sione Takitaki were just drafted in 2019, but have lacked the consistency to earn a ton of snaps. The jury is still out on 2020 rookie Jacob Phillips, but adding an explosive player like Owosu-Koromoah would be a step in the right direction for GM Andrew Berry, head coach Kevin Stefanski, defensive coordinator Joe Woods and the entire Browns defense.
