13. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 13. player. Offensive Tackle. Northwestern. Rashawn Slater

Every year, there seems to be a fit or two that I lock onto early in the process and pretty much stick with it throughout the entire lead up to the draft. Rashawn Slater and the Los Angeles Chargers may be the one for me for the 2021 NFL Draft.

Rashawn Slater is one of my absolute favorite 2021 NFL Draft prospects. Like Sewell, he really has everything that you look for in an offensive lineman. He can play really any spot on the line and excels at nearly every aspect of the position.

Slater is absolutely dominant in the run game. He is a massive human with heavy hands and a powerful base. He is a mauler that can turn and finish defenders with ease. And for such a big guy, Slater moves very well. As a puller, out in space and moving to the next level, Slater has shown that he can thrive in both a zone and gap run scheme.

As a pass protector, where some may criticize him, Slater is super solid as well. I’m not really seeing any of these negatives. He has quick feet, a strong core, good length and powerful hands to keep defenders at bay. He absolutely shut down Chase Young when they battled, displaying his potential as a pass protector.

The Los Angeles Chargers need a left tackle of the future to pair with their start young quarterback, Justin Herbert. And although I think he would come in and be that starting left tackle right away, he could easily bump in to guard if need be.

A player like Slater would go a long way towards the development of Herbert and the improvement of the team’s running game. No matter who ends up calling plays for the Los Angeles Chargers, a player like Slater would be a perfect fit no matter what.
