2021 NFL Draft: Deshaun Watson on the move in latest NFL mock draft
As sort of the forgotten Alabama Crimson Tide playmaker, an abbreviated pre-draft process could hurt the electrifying wide receiver, Jaylen Waddle. Coming into the 2020 college football season, many expected Jaylen Waddle to be squarely in the 2021 NFL Draft WR1 conversation. However, a broken ankle de-railed his season and has some people forgetting how explosive of a playmaker he really is.
The one current NFL player that many compare Waddle to is Tyreek Hill of the Kansas City Chiefs. He really has that type of speed and explosiveness, with the potential to develop into the same level of elite receiver at the next level.
Waddle is much more than just a straight-line speed guy. He is a versatile receiver who can line up anywhere across the field. He has great hands, providing his quarterback with a wide catch radius when throwing in his direction.
A solid route runner and dangerous with the ball in his hands, Waddle is a dangerous tool, especially when sent in motion. If put into the right hands, a creative offensive coach will be ecstatic to have a player like Waddle to work with.
The New York Giants have a decent receiving corps around young quarterback, Daniel Jones, but they don’t have anyone quite like Jaylen Waddle. In fact, they haven’t had a dynamic target like Waddle since they traded Odell Beckham Jr. to Cleveland.
While I’m not sure that Jason Garrett is that perfect offensive mind to take advantage of all the Waddle has to offer, adding Waddle to a core of Jones, Saquon Barkley, Evan Engram, Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton would be hard to mess up. The Giants need to do everything they can to support Jones as the future of their franchise.
