Dallas Cowboys 2021 NFL Draft needs

2. Safety

I think the Dallas Cowboys had a pleasant surprise with the emergence of strong safety Donovan Wilson. It’s too bad it took halfway through the season for the Dallas Cowboys to realize this kid makes plays.

As well as Donovan Wilson has played all season, their starting free safety Xavier Woods is a free agent and according to overthecap.com his expected salary he will command is $7 million per season. This leads me to believe that Woods will test free agency.

I do believe that the Dallas Cowboys are trying to groom Reggie Robinson II to play safety this year after a redshirt year for the rookie. He was a 4th round draft pick from Tulsa University where he played the majority of his snaps at cornerback. This hasn’t been the case for the rookie as he has been transitioning to safety.

I do love the talent here in this year’s draft in the late first to the early second-round range.

3. Cornerback

The Dallas Cowboys have a couple of cornerbacks on their roster who are set to test free agency in Jourdan Lewis and Chidobe Awuzie. The Dallas Cowboys were pleased with the development of the rookie Trevon Diggs as he lined up against some great competition and had his battles.

As the Dallas Cowboys transition into a deeper zone team next year I think Diggs will be a perfect fit for what they want to do. They also will have the return of slot corner Anthony Brown who has played well this year.

The 2020 NFL season for the Dallas Cowboys was riddled with injuries, especially with this cornerback group. Each of the Cowboys corners missed time. The Dallas Cowboys will be getting back a talented corner who they signed last year from the New York Jets in Maurice Canady,  who opted out in 2020.

I think this 2021 NFL Draft sets up perfectly for where the Dallas Cowboys pick in the first round. The Dallas Cowboys pick with the 10th pick and I think they are in a great spot to make this position a group of strength for the 2021 season.

If you can add a veteran cornerback to a group with Diggs, Brown, Canady, and a top draft pick, I think this is where you can compete on the back end against top receiver talent.
