2021 NFL Draft: 7th overall

Pick Analysis. LB. Micah Parsons. 7. player. 50. Scouting Report. Penn State

The Detroit Lions, like much of the teams in front of them here, experienced a lot of issues and turmoil in the 2020 season. They too fired their head coach, Matt Patricia, and general manager, Bob Quinn. The reason? Failure in recent drafts to bring in enough talent on the roster. Now, in a reset, there will be questions.

Is the roster barren enough to engage in a clean wipe? Matt Stafford is still a very good quarterback at 32 years old, but acquiring more 2021 NFL Draft capital could be the direction they take.

We will save that speculation for the coming months, but for now, this team needs a difference-maker on the defensive side of the ball. Jeffery Okudah should make a jump in year two, so they look to the second level for this pick.

Both Jarrad Davis and Jahlani Tavai didn’t pan out, but the hope here is that Micah Parsons will. Parsons is an all-world athlete and puts that on display when the film comes on. His range and explosiveness pop immediately, and he’s physical as a downhill presence.

There’s evidence that Parsons can be used as a rusher on the edge to get after the quarterback or drop quickly into coverage. However he’s deployed, the upside is tremendous.
