2021 NFL Mock Draft: Two teams trade up for QBs in 2021 NFL Mock Draft
2021 NFL Draft: 5th overall
The Cincinnati Bengals’ luck was looking up after landing Joe Burrow last April but little changed because of issues on the offensive line. Second-year head coach Zac Taylor had the offense improving every week until they lost Burrow for the season. Picking up a late win over the Steelers may have honestly saved Taylor’s job. Now, things need to turn around in a hurry.
They miss out on Sewell but select a former teammate of Burrow’s to boost the passing game even more. Ja’Marr Chase was another 2021 NFL Draft prospect to skip the season, and it shouldn’t hurt his stock one bit.
Chase brings the traits to be an “X” receiver at the next level. He’s extremely physical at the line of scrimmage and can make quick work of defenders trying to press him. He does good work after the catch, showing good short-area burst and the strength to run through tacklers.
His best trait is the work he can do at the catch point. Chase can win jump balls with ease and use his frame to box out defenders and stack them vertically. Burrow loves players like this, and the familiarity makes the fit even better.
