2021 NFL Draft: 13th overall

13. Scouting Report. OT. Northwestern. Rashawn Slater. 13. Pick Analysis. player

The Los Angeles Chargers have likely found their franchise quarterback in Justin Herbert, which takes the sting out of another rough season under Anthony Lynn. Lynn is now out as head coach, and with Brandon Staley coming to take the job, hopefully, they add an OC to unleash Herbert in 2021.

The question mark for this team has been, for a long time, the offensive line. It’s been patchwork for a long time, and the Chargers haven’t hit on their draft selections at the position. Los Angeles brought in Bryan Bulaga this past year which has helped a little, but finding someone long-term at left tackle is huge.

It’s probably getting ho-hum bringing up another player who opted out, but Rashawn Slater is still getting a ton of attention. His game against Chase Young in 2019 was as well as anyone who played against Young in college. It sounds like NFL teams are high on him.

Slater is as rock-solid as anyone, with strong lateral quickness and exemplary footwork. He has strong hands and is quick out of his stance. His pass sets are impressive and he can frame rushers well. Length may be a concern for some teams, but he will be just fine at left tackle.
