2021 NFL Draft: Round 1, 12th overall

WR. Alabama. Jaylen Waddle. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 12. 59

It will be tempting for the Miami Dolphins to simply stand pat at No. 3 and add DeVonta Smith or Ja’Marr Chase to their passing attack. That being said, trade down scenarios are extremely likely to be available to them in the 2021 NFL Draft and this one appears to work out well. Instead of reaching a bit for Smith at Chase at No. 3, the Dolphins load up on extra draft capital in a trade-down to No. 12 and still add an impact wide receiver to the mix.

Jaylen Waddle is arguably the most explosive player in the 2021 NFL Draft class, showing an elite combination of speed, quickness and acceleration that makes him a threat to take it to the house from anywhere on the field. Waddle is not quite as refined as Smith or Chase as a route runner but he changes speeds in an instant and does a great job of using his tremendous physical skill-set to separate from the defense.

While his speed is exciting, do not mistake Waddle as a guy who will need touches manufactured for him at the next level. He is a complete wide receiver prospect who can make an impact at all three levels of the defense and also shows reliable hands at all times.

Make no mistake about it, Waddle is one of the most exciting players in the 2021 NFL Draft class and adding him to the mix in Miami would be great. Waddle’s ridiculous natural playmaking ability would help take the Dolphins’ offensive attack to the next level.
