Ideal first round landing spots for Alabama quarterback Mac Jones

Phillip Rivers possible retirement leaves the door open for a rookie quarterback
Indianapolis Colts
21st overall pick
Prior to the Anthony Castonzo retirement news, I had Indianapolis as my best landing spot for the Alabama quarterback. It makes too much sense, even if Phillip Rivers decides to return.
Mac Jones could sit a year behind Rivers, then take over a potent offense in 2022 with players like Jonathan Taylor and Michael Pittman Jr. developing for another year and Jones being in the system for a season.
However, now with Castonzo’s sudden retirement, the Colts could look to address the left tackle position. And then they could look elsewhere at quarterback, possibly Carson Wentz if Rivers does decide to retire.
It’s an interesting situation, but based on what was seen in their wildcard matchup against the Buffalo Bills, the Colts are a quarterback away from being great. The Colts could add Jones in the draft and select a left tackle in the second round, then look toward adding either Robinson or Chris Godwin in free agency.
The Colts failed to give Andrew Luck a roster to take them past the AFC Championship, but the team now is a quarterback away from being able to reach places they haven’t been to since Peyton Manning.
Expect Indy to make a huge leap in 2021 and it will most likely be with a new quarterback at the helm.
