Top positions of need for the New York Giants in the 2021 NFL Draft
The New York Giants almost returned to the playoffs for the first time since 2016. Head coach Joe Judge, with the help of his trusty sidekick Patrick Graham, turned around an 0-5 team to a 6-10 playoff contender. They were an Eagles win, and a Washington loss from making the playoffs. The Eagles, however, decided to sacrifice their Super Bowl-winning coach for a better draft pick.
The Giants quite frankly didn’t deserve to make the playoffs. In most seasons, 6-10 should not warrant a playoff berth. They had trouble putting points on the board all season and had some weaknesses on their much-improved defense.
Even with many holes on the roster, Giants’ owners Steve Tisch and John Mara think that the Giants are headed in the right direction. They decided to allow general manager Dave Gettleman to return to try this rebuild through and end the playoff drought.
Gettleman took over the general manager role in 2018 following a disastrous 3-13 season. He has been in charge of a slow rebuild that has improved continuously. He inherited a poorly constructed roster that had missed on multiple draft picks in multiple classes, and also had a ton of cap issues after the previous GM decided to put the Giants in salary cap hell.
This could be Gettleman’s last chance to get the Giants into the playoffs. But, he has the right man at the helm in Judge, and has the foundation in place. The Giants just need a little extra help to get back into the playoffs. Especially in these upcoming positions.
