Chargers rebuild offensive line in 3-round 2021 NFL mock draft
Chargers mock draft: Round 2, Pick 47
Quincy Roche, EDGE, Miami
The six-foot-three, 245-pound Miami Hurricane would provide a nice boost to the Chargers’ pass rush. Other than Bosa, only Uchenna Nwosu had a presence in that department with four and a half sacks.
More is needed and Roche could alleviate the void for the ‘Bolts.’ His collegiate production indicates his potential, especially the last two seasons. Split between Miami and Temple, Roche accumulated 17.5 sacks, 33.5 tackles for a loss, and three forced fumbles.
Strictly speaking on Roche’s pass-rushing abilities, PFF graded him at 87.7 for his senior year. Not far behind though, his run-defense grade was 70.8 which would bode well for the Chargers’ run defense.
Watching Roche’s film, you can see how he explodes off the line, almost with a violent streak. Every hit from Roche seems to punish signal-callers, plus his length and frame are obvious as he dominates tackles. One trait that pops up is Roche’s motor, he doesn’t stop till the whistle blows. On running plays, he doesn’t just give up on contact but rather, he pursues ball carriers.
Even in the run game, Roche is an asset from the EDGE position, he’s able to keep up with running backs, making stops. His speed off the line of scrimmage is also eye-popping. Against Floria State, you can see his burst through the B-gap delivering a devastating sack.
Even if fans are concerned about his height, we all know height doesn’t always define a great NFL edge rusher. If he’s there when the Chargers pick 47th, he warrants a look.
