Rashan Gary

The Green Bay Packers selection of Rashan Gary at 12 overall back in 2019 drew some skepticism, as Gary was ranked with more volatility on draft boards. He was more projection than a finished product, and general manager Brian Gutekunst decided to take the chance on that projection reaching a high ceiling. The Smith brothers’ success in 2019 limited his snaps, but 2020 was a different story.

The stat sheet may not seem impressive in his second season (five sacks, five tackles for loss, nine quarterback hits), but he’s come along very well as the season goes on. After recording just 11 total pressures in the first half of the season, Gary tied with Za’Darius Smith, getting 28 pressures in the Packers’ final eight games.

Gary’s athleticism has been important for his ability to get after the quarterback. His get-off and ability to turn the corner was very good coming out of college, and he’s converting speed to power really well in 2020 to collapse the pocket. His hand usage is getting better and he’s processing things much quicker to get into counters.

Don’t be surprised if Gary is starting opposite Za’Darius in 2021, cause he’s shown the development and promise to have earned it.
