2021 NFL Draft 1st round: 6th pick

6. player. 59. Pick Analysis. WR. Alabama. DeVonta Smith. Scouting Report

In any 2021 mock draft scenario, does any player/team fit make more sense than the Miami Dolphins and wide receiver Devonta Smith?

The Dolphins don’t have an offensive coordinator as of this particular writing, so this is specifically connecting Smith to his former college quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Smith has been sensational in his years at Alabama and it was somewhat of a shock that he went back to school for the 2020 season in the first place.

He would have been a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, but he returned to Alabama and wound up winning the Heisman Trophy, possibly even a National Championship as well.

Simply put, no one has been able to stop Smith all year and frankly, barely anybody could stop him in the 2019 season.

Smith’s greatest limitation at Alabama may have been playing with three other first-round picks at wide receiver at the same time.

As good as the Crimson Tide receiver corps has been the past few seasons, no wide receiver has won the Heisman Trophy since Desmond Howard in 1991. Smith has made history and even as odd as the 2020 season has been for the players, his dominance should come with no asterisk.

He would be a huge asset for Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins.
