2021 NFL Draft 1st round: 5th pick

5. player. Pick Analysis. OT. Penei Sewell. Scouting Report. Oregon. 56

Talk about a sigh of relief scenario for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Bengals fans lost their collective you-know-what when Joe Burrow went down with a season-ending knee injury, one that ended up being severe and somewhat concerning regarding his availability for the start of the 2021 season.

As fans lamented Burrow’s season-ending injury, they also lamented the team’s poor situation on the offensive line.

Burrow had been hit hard all season long, and when he finally took a shot that got him hurt significantly, it triggered what will likely be the Bengals’ 2021 offseason motto: Protect the QB at all costs.

Lucky for the Bengals in this scenario, they are able to get the guy who is widely considered the best offensive line prospect in the entire class with the fifth overall pick.

Penei Sewell was lights out for two years as Justin Herbert’s blind side pass protector in Oregon’s offense, and while it’s been thrown around way too much, the term “generational” has come up with him.

Even if generational is a stretch, it’s not a stretch to say that Sewell could be one of the best investments the Bengals could make in the 2021 offseason.
