2021 NFL Draft 1st round: 21st pick

Scouting Report. 21. player. Pick Analysis. DL. Iowa. Daviyon Nixon. 52

After using their top selection on Trevor Lawrence, what would the Jacksonville Jaguars do?

This team is so far off from being complete as far as a rebuilding project that it’s really tough to know. Thankfully, for the Jaguars’ sake, they have a lot of time to figure things out.

When rebuilding a roster, you have to look to the trenches on both sides unless you can get cornerstone players at offensive tackle, off the edge, or maybe cornerback/wide receiver.

Receiver is less of a need for the Jaguars here even with a deep class of players, but building through the trenches is always something teams need to do.

Can you ever have enough pass rushers on the interior defensive line?

There has been perhaps no bigger breakout player in the 2020 college football season on the defensive line than Iowa’s Daviyon Nixon.

Nixon played his first season for the Hawkeyes as a JUCO transfer in 2019 and he was productive, but he was phenomenal in 2020 with 45 total tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and a ridiculous 71-yard interception returned for a touchdown.

Nixon’s burst and athleticism on the interior defensive line could not only make him one of the top risers in college football but in the 2021 NFL Draft class as a whole.
