2021 NFL Draft: Alabama, Ohio State load up two-round mock draft
2021 NFL Draft 1st round: 2nd pick
In my most recent mock draft, I had Justin Fields as the quarterback falling out of the top 10 as questions mounted with inconsistent play in some of his recent games.
Fields’ games against Northwestern and Indiana in 2020, as well as Clemson in the 2019 college football playoff, raised some concerns over his decision-making abilities against attacking defenses.
Then came his gutty performance against Clemson in this year’s playoff, and the hype around Fields has been restored.
As time has gone along, Fields has pretty consistently been in the top 10 of mock drafts and it’s become apparent that he could very well have the highest ceiling of any quarterback in this draft class besides Lawrence.
Zach Wilson has become a favorite of many and he won’t need to wait long to hear his name called, but it is possible the Jets could fall in love with a guy like Fields, whose top traits at this point are obviously his intangible qualities, big arm, and athleticism.
This would mean the Jets’ new head coach and general manager Joe Douglas would have reasoned to move on from the Sam Darnold investment. There would likely be a number of suitors interested in adding Darnold and attempting to maximize his lofty potential in their systems.
