Improving the Atlanta Falcons or the long term in this complete seven-round 2021 NFL mock draft

The Atlanta Falcons are coming off of an extremely disappointing 2020 season, finishing the year at 4-12. However, their -18 point differential on the year suggests that they are a better team than their record indicates. The Falcons need to figure out how to win close games but there is still a lot of talent on this roster and they could turn their fortune around quickly with a strong offseason.

The Falcons hold the fourth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, putting themselves in a great position to add a real impact player to the mix. However, in this 2021 NFL mock draft, we are going to try to improve this team across the board by going seven rounds deep.

Without further ado, here is a complete seven-round 2021 NFL mock draft for the Atlanta Falcons.

The Falcons could easily look in another direction with their first-round selection but Matt Ryan is not getting any younger. This team needs to figure out their long-term quarterback situation and they have no idea when they will be picking this high again. Taking a high-level quarterback prospect to groom behind Ryan certainly makes sense for Atlanta at No. 4.

With Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields off of the board, Zach Wilson stands out as the clear quarterback choice for the Atlanta Falcons with this pick. Wilson is a dynamic playmaker at the quarterback position who create with his legs and sling the ball down the field with accuracy.

Wilson is a tremendous improviser who feels pressure in the pocket well and has the athleticism needed to escape and create on the run. Wilson throws the ball on the run extremely well and does a great job of dropping down to a lower arm angle to make a great throw when needed. Simply put, Wilson is a natural playmaker at the quarterback position who has tremendous upside at the next level.

If the Atlanta Falcons had positions of need that lined up well with the other top prospects in this draft class, I could see them going in another direction. That being said, the opportunity to secure the quarterback situation after Ryan is simply too tempting to ignore.
